Biography
The band originally
formed in 1989 and was called Don't Panic, later changing its name
to Wyld Thyme but too many people heard the name and thought it was
a folk band and Wasted are definitely
not a folk band! The original line-up played mostly covers
while writing original material. The main drive has always been
playing at live gigs, a real party band Wasted are never known to
turn down the opportunity to get out in front of an audience and
strut their stuff.
Band members
Roger Akers
 |
Roger, along with Graham Takats (drums)
and Verna Akers (Bass), was one of the founder members of the
band. Now Roger is singer/song writer, lead guitarist, harmonica
player, mandolin player and, recently, banjo player. Is there
no end to this man's talents?
Musical influences include: Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Stuart Adamson
and Steve Earle.
Roger provides the band with a
wide range of styles and sounds from rock to blues, to country
and beyond. |
Jez Chapman
 |
Jez, as he likes to be called, surname Chapman. An in demand as
a drummer, also plays for Rock outfit 'Autumn Rain' and sessions
to other bands too, as he is that good.
He joined less than a year
ago and giged with us after just one rehearsal. Not much more
to say
about jez apart from the supporters love him and like to chant
his name at the end of our gigs. |
Verna Akers

|
Verna has been with the band since the beginning,
she plays the bass guitar in her own distinctive fashion and performs
lead and backing vocals on songs written by band members Roger
Akers and Paul Booth, as well as performing a few carefully chosen
covers of artists such as KT Tunstall, Suzanne Vega etc…
Verna’s
ability to create and sing exciting harmonies adds to this bands
exceptional line up of unique styles. Verna is an accomplished
and talented musician as well as vocalist, able to diversify
and add to the strong rhythm section behind the band which provides
the backbone for Wasted's sound. |
Sue Akers
 |
Sue Joined the band six years ago as backing
vocalist and percussionist, now having progressed to lead vocals
on songs written by band members Roger Akers and Paul Booth.
Including duets with Roger and twin lead vocals with Paul. Sue
also performs a few carefully chosen covers by artists such as
KT Tunstall, Dixie Chicks, REM and Alanis Morriset. Sue still
shares backing vocals with the other members of the band as the
only non singers are Graham (drums) and Gawain (percussion),
she also joins in on percussion on some numbers.
Sue’s voice ranges from rock with a raw edge, to blues,
to a country feel on occasions. This adds to the diverse sound
of Wasted and the band's ability to produce a unique style, blending
with the other band members to create a repertoire of music across
a great range of genres and sounds. Sue also likes to 'move it'
on stage and along with other band members creates a dynamic
live performance visually as well as musically. |
Paul Booth
 |
Newest member of the band; Paul joined in January
2005. Singer, song writer and rhythm guitarist (mainly acoustic,
with a little electric, apparently good with his fingers).
Paul
also provides lead and backing vocals on songs written by himself
and Roger Akers, as well as on a few well chosen covers of artists
such as Greenday, REM etc. Many musical influences range from
Neil Young to Stereophonics, Beatles to Pink Floyd, Dylan to
Sex Pistols via Buddy Guy and Gomez. Doesn't play, sing or write
songs like any of them in particular, but it all blends in his
unique style.
Paul shares the same eclectic dress sense as others
in the band, and is gutted that he would be the youngest member
if it wasn't for yet another Akers... |
Gawain Akers

|
The youngest member of the band, Gawain
adds interest to the rhythm section. Playing dynamic percussion
on Tambo, bongos, shakers etc…
His talents add an extra
level to the bands sound, creating depth and dynamics. |
Wasted are a great live band, and are best appreciated at a live gig.
